DGMA Leads High-Level Maritime Engagements at SMM Hamburg 2026 and Norway to Advance India’s Global Shipbuilding Visio

Reaffirming India’s growing stature in the global maritime sector, the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA), under the leadership of Shri Vijay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, undertook a series of strategic engagements at SMM Hamburg 2026 and in Norway to strengthen international cooperation in shipbuilding, shipping and maritime innovation.

At SMM Hamburg 2026, one of the world’s largest maritime exhibitions, the Indian delegation showcased the nation’s shipbuilding ambitions through the India Pavilion, delivered the inaugural address at the India Panel, chaired the India Business Roundtable, and engaged with leading global maritime organisations including Hapag-Lloyd, Damen Shipyards Group, Rhenus Logistics, WinGD and Everllence. The visit also witnessed significant milestones, including the inauguration of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) Hamburg Office and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Indian Maritime Centre (IMC) and the German Maritime Centre (DMC).

The engagements were complemented by participation in the India–Norway Maritime Joint Working Group Meeting and the India–Norway Maritime Business Roundtable, which focused on enhancing bilateral collaboration in shipbuilding, green shipping technologies, maritime decarbonisation, innovation and maritime skills development.

These strategic interactions underscore India’s commitment to building a globally competitive maritime ecosystem and advancing the objectives of Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, which envisages positioning India among the world’s top five shipbuilding nations while fostering sustainable growth, technological advancement and international maritime partnerships.
