INMARCO 2022


The International Maritime Conference and Exhibition (INMARCO) 2022 was a premier global maritime event held in Mumbai from 17 to 19 November 2022, bringing together maritime leaders, policymakers, regulators, industry stakeholders and technology providers from across the world. Organised quadrennially by the Institute of Marine Engineers (India), INMARCO has, since its inception in 1982, served as a flagship platform to showcase India’s maritime capabilities and facilitate knowledge exchange within the global maritime fraternity.

INMARCO 2022 was held under the theme “Sustainable Shipping”, reflecting the global maritime sector’s transition towards environmentally responsible operations, decarbonisation and technological innovation. The conference was conducted alongside a large-scale exhibition, enabling maritime equipment manufacturers, shipbuilders, service providers and technology companies to showcase cutting-edge solutions and emerging innovations relevant to the maritime sector.

INMARCO 2022

The Directorate General of Shipping actively participated in INMARCO 2022 and organised the Green Shipping Conclave in conjunction with the conference, bringing together policymakers and industry stakeholders to deliberate on the roadmap for decarbonisation of the Indian maritime sector.

Objectives

INMARCO 2022 was designed to serve as a comprehensive global platform to advance maritime knowledge, foster collaboration and support sustainable growth of the maritime sector. The key objectives included:

  • Providing a global forum for maritime professionals to exchange knowledge and share developments in shipping, shipbuilding, offshore operations, ports and maritime infrastructure
  • Facilitating interaction among regulators, shipowners, operators, shipyards, equipment manufacturers, technology providers and service organisations
  • Promoting sustainable shipping practices and supporting maritime decarbonisation initiatives
  • Encouraging research, innovation and adoption of green and digital maritime technologies
  • Strengthening international collaboration and supporting India’s emergence as a global maritime hub

INMARCO 2022 was organised by the Institute of Marine Engineers (India), Mumbai Branch, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Shipping and with participation from:

The conference featured participation from international organisations, financial institutions, maritime administrations and technology providers, highlighting its global significance and collaborative approach.

Inaugural Session and Distinguished Dignitaries

The conference was inaugurated in the presence of senior government officials, global maritime leaders and industry experts. Key dignitaries included:

  • Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra inaugurated the conference
  • Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, Director, Marine Environment Division, IMO gave the keynote address
  • Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, launched key maritime digital initiatives and institutional collaborations
  • Shri Amitabh Kumar, IRS, Director General of Shipping, delivered the opening remarks and emphasised India’s commitment to maritime decarbonisation and sustainability
  • Senior officials from the Directorate General of Shipping, International Maritime Organization, global maritime administrations, classification societies and international organisations

The conference also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for establishing India’s first Centre of Excellence for Green Ports and Shipping, strengthening institutional capacity for maritime decarbonisation and sustainability.
