Mr. Chamarthy Phani Kumar Kashyap
Executive Director - Operations, Sanmar Shipping Ltd., Chennai
Chamarthy Phani Kumar Kashyap, currently serving as the Executive Director - Operations at Sanmar Shipping Limited, brings over four decades of experience in the maritime industry. A Mechanical Engineering graduate from Andhra University and an MBA from the University of Melbourne, he has held strategic roles in ship operations, overseeing technical, human resources, health, safety, and environmental (HSE), and compliance functions.
His earlier tenure as Resident Director at Bureau Veritas, Sri Lanka, involved managing Marine, Industrial Quality, Environmental Standards, Social Accountability, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) verification. His expertise encompasses the implementation, auditing, and verification of Quality, Environmental, Safety & Security, and Social Accountability Management Systems.
He is a seasoned participant in MEPC and IMO deliberations and an active member of technical committees of leading classification societies like INSA, IRS, Lloyd’s Register, and DNV, as well as the Institute of Marine Engineers India (IMEI).
His early career includes over 13 years of sailing experience, serving as Chief Engineer and Second Engineer on various vessels including cargo ships, bulk carriers, tankers, and offshore supply vessels, which has laid a strong foundation for his leadership in driving operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and sustainable maritime practices.
Mr. Indra Nath Bose
Former Vice President, IRS & Advisor, Maritime Safety, Environment and Regulation
Indra Nath Bose is a distinguished marine professional with a career spanning over five decades. A graduate of the Directorate of Marine Engineering Training (1971), he sailed for 12½ years, including five years as Chief Engineer, and earned the prestigious Extra First Class Engineer Certificate of Competency from the UK Department of Trade in 1982.
He began his shore career in 1984 with the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), rising to Vice President, and led key departments such as Machinery Plan Approval and Statutory Services. He also conducted training on the ISM Code, ISPS Code, and IMO Conventions in India and abroad. In 2007, he joined The Great Eastern Shipping Co. Ltd., overseeing quality, safety, security, occupational health, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance, later becoming Assistant Vice President and leading Fleet Performance Monitoring until 2021, after which he continues as an Advisor.
Since 1997, Mr. Bose has represented India at IMO’s MEPC meetings, playing a major role in shaping global maritime regulations, particularly on GHG emission reduction, including his work with the IMO Expert Group on Market-Based Measures. His technical submissions, such as India’s paper on 0.50% sulphur fuel, have been adopted as official IMO circulars.
As an INSA representative, he co-authored the globally recognized “Joint Industry Guidance on the Supply and Use of 0.50% Sulphur Marine Fuel”, and contributed to the development of the Ballast Water Management regulations, SEEMP, EEDI, and the IMO Data Collection System.
He has chaired the INSA Technical Committee since 2014, contributed to Indian maritime legislation, and supported the national maritime administration in implementing ISM and ISPS Codes, including Port Facility Security Plan assessments.
Internationally, he has held active roles in IACS, ICS, and BIMCO, where he served as Chair of the Marine Environment Committee.
An accomplished author, Mr. Bose wrote “Energy Efficiency and Ships” (2012) and “Guide to Data Collection System - Reduction of GHG Emission from Ships” (2018). His first book is referenced widely, including in US universities like MIT. He also served as Editor of Marine Engineers Review (2012-2014) and held committee roles in IRS, Bureau Veritas, Class NK, and DNV GL.
His exemplary service has earned him the IME(I) Mumbai Branch Meritorious Service Award (2022) and the Sagar Samman Award for Excellence (2023) for his outstanding contribution to the maritime sector.
Mr. Kaushik Seal
President, Institute of Marine Engineers (India)
(Former Head of Sales at Njord, Maersk Tankers)
Mr. Kaushik Seal is currently the President of the Institute of Marine Engineers India. Prior to this, he was in Singapore as the Head of Sales at Njord, a Green Tech business under Maersk Tankers. He was previously looking after Sales in the SEAP region at StormGeo, which is a very similar earlier role in the Digital Solutions and Innovation ECO space at DNV. He has also served as Head of GL Systems Certification and Head of GL Academy in South Asia.
Before joining GL, he was the Vice President (Technical) with Aquarius Services, an associate of Anglo Eastern Ship Management. His past roles also include being a Ship Surveyor, Lead Auditor & Global Lead Tutor with Lloyd’s Register, Country Manager-India with ABS Quality Evaluations, Quality Manager with ARI-Simulations, and a sailing Chief Engineer with Great Eastern Shipping Company.
He is a Fellow of RINA, IMEI and a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Engineers. With over 40 years of Industry Experience, his daily dose of fresh ideas stems from the philosophy that ‘Enjoy What You Do and Do What You Enjoy’!
