Workshop Programme
The Consortium Incubation Workshop brought together stakeholders from across the maritime, ports, energy and alternative fuels ecosystem. The programme included high-level addresses, technical presentations and a panel discussion on "How can green corridors support India's green transition?". Detailed findings of the pre-feasibility study were presented across the four principal analytical areas of energy and fuels, ports, vessels and cargo and policy and regulation, providing the basis for subsequent discussions on potential corridor opportunities.
Screening and Commitment
As part of the pre-feasibility assessment, 40 potential green shipping corridors were identified across inland waterways, coastal and domestic shipping and deep-sea routes. These were taken forward through a structured screening and prioritisation process, including an interactive exercise during the workshop to identify first-wave corridors with potential for further development. The workshop also included a commitment exercise through which participating organisations indicated their interest in supporting the further maturation of the prioritised corridors.
The workshop marked the culmination of the pre-feasibility phase and provided a platform for progressing from broad corridor identification towards more focused assessment of promising opportunities. Further assessment and detailed feasibility work on the identified opportunities is being taken forward towards the development of viable green shipping corridors in India.

Stakeholder Seminar on IMO–DNV Study on Potential Demand and Pricing of Alternative Marine Fuels in India
9 February 2026
Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), Mumbai | IMO GreenVoyage2050 Programme
As part of India's engagement under the IMO GreenVoyage2050 Programme as a Lead Pilot Country, the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) organised this stakeholder seminar. The study, undertaken by DNV in partnership with DGS and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, assessed the potential demand, pricing and competitiveness of alternative marine fuels in India and opportunities for positioning India as a regional bunkering hub for low- and zero-carbon fuels. The seminar brought together maritime stakeholders to discuss the findings and their implications for India's transition towards alternative marine fuels.
Key Discussion Areas
- Vessel traffic and route analysis
- Potential demand across different fuel pathways
- Identification of prospective ports and clusters for alternative fuel bunkering
- Delivered fuel cost, operational reliability and clarity of approval processes
- Interactive Q&A sessions and focused breakout discussions on demand- and supply-side considerations
- Infrastructure readiness and sequencing of pilot initiatives
Key Insight
A key aspect of the discussions was the need to build initial demand around vessels already calling at Indian ports, particularly container vessels, rather than relying primarily on diversion of passing international traffic. The seminar provided an important platform for translating the findings of the IMO–DNV study into stakeholder discussions on future fuel pathways, bunkering infrastructure, competitiveness and policy and industry preparedness. The study and associated deliberations are intended to provide an evidence base for future planning and coordinated action towards development of an alternative marine fuel ecosystem in India.
