Dr. C. P. Srivastava Chair at the World Maritime University

The Dr. C. P. Srivastava Chair at the World Maritime University (WMU), Malmö, Sweden, marks a significant milestone in strengthening maritime cooperation between the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), Government of India, and WMU. Established through a Memorandum of Agreement signed on 6 October 2026 in New Delhi, the Chair honours the legacy of Dr. C. P. Srivastava and provides a dedicated platform for maritime education, research, knowledge exchange and capacity building. It aims to strengthen collaboration between WMU and Indian government institutions, universities, research organisations and maritime industry stakeholders. Key areas of engagement include shipping and port management, maritime logistics, human capital development, green shipping, digitalisation, maritime governance, safety and security, shipbuilding, inland waterways and international cooperation. The Chair is expected to facilitate joint research, academic exchanges, professional development, seminars, workshops and policy discussions, while promoting the exchange of Indian maritime experience and global best practices. It will also strengthen linkages between research, policymaking and industry, contributing to the development of skilled maritime professionals and future leaders. The initiative aligns with Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, which emphasise human capital, innovation, sustainability and institutional capacity. The MoA establishes a foundation for a sustained institutional partnership, enabling India to contribute more actively to international maritime discourse while leveraging global expertise to support the development of a competitive, sustainable and knowledge-driven maritime sector.
