The IT & E-Governance Division of the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) is mandated to drive digital transformation across the organization by minimizing manual intervention, reducing administrative costs, accelerating decision-making, and significantly improving turnaround times for regulatory and service delivery processes. Through systematic adoption of digital solutions, the Division enhances overall efficiency, transparency, and accountability in public administration. Aligned with the objectives of Maritime India Vision (MIV) 2030, the Division plays a critical role in strengthening ease of doing business, improving regulatory efficiency, and enabling technology-driven governance within India’s maritime ecosystem. It supports various functional branches of DGS by leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT), including web-based platforms and integrated digital systems, to modernize operational workflows and deliver citizen-centric, industry-friendly services.

In furtherance of the long-term goals articulated under Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision (MAKV) 2047, the IT & E-Governance Division is focused on building a future-ready, resilient, and digitally empowered maritime administration. The Division is progressively transitioning legacy, paper-based processes into end-to-end digital services, ensuring seamless access to regulatory approvals, certifications, licensing, permits, and statutory compliances.

By enabling services such as online applications, approvals, fee payments, and real-time status tracking, the Division ensures 24×7 accessibility from anywhere, fosters data-driven decision-making, and enhances stakeholder trust. Collectively, these initiatives contribute to the creation of a smart, integrated, and responsive maritime governance framework, supporting India’s aspiration to emerge as a global maritime leader by 2030 and beyond 2047.
