DGS Participation at IMEI Annual Meet & Technical Seminar 2026

The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, actively participated in the Annual Meet & Technical Seminar 2026 organised by the Institute of Marine Engineers (India) – Mumbai Branch on 27 February 2026 at the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), BKC. The seminar served as an important platform for exchanging technical insights, policy perspectives, and industry priorities relevant to India’s evolving maritime landscape.

The event commenced with the opening note and welcome remarks by Shri Pradeep Sudhakar, Chief Ship Surveyor, who extended greetings to distinguished guests, speakers and attendees. In his address, he emphasised the importance of sustained dialogue, technical exchange and industry–government collaboration to address emerging challenges in maritime operations, technology adoption and professional development. He highlighted the Institute’s longstanding role in advancing knowledge, competence and engineering excellence within the maritime community.

In a dedicated technical session, Shri Ankur Anal, Ship Surveyor‑cum‑Assistant Director General (Technical), delivered a presentation on India’s evolving shipbuilding initiatives, with focus on the Maritime Development Fund (MDF), Infrastructure Incentive Framework (IIF) and allied policy instruments. He outlined the Government’s vision to strengthen domestic shipbuilding capacity through improved financing pathways, infrastructure readiness, innovation-driven growth and enhanced skill development. His address underscored the importance of coordinated efforts among policymakers, engineers, industry leaders and academia to support self-reliance and bolster India’s position in global shipbuilding.

The participation of DGS reaffirmed its commitment to advancing technical capability, fostering stakeholder engagement, and supporting India’s maritime growth agenda.
