Collaborative knowledge session between the International Group of P&I Clubs (IGP&I) and the Directorate General of Shipping

A collaborative knowledge session between the International Group of P&I Clubs (IGP&I) and the Directorate General of Shipping was held on 11 February 2026 in hybrid mode.

Shri Sushil Mansingh Khopde, Additional Director General of Shipping, inaugurated the session and welcomed Ms. Danielle Dutta, Senior Executive at the IGP&I Secretariat, highlighting the importance of institutional knowledge exchange in strengthening maritime governance and fostering collaborative engagement across stakeholders.

Capt. Anish Joseph, Deputy Nautical Adviser-cum-Senior DDG, Directorate General of Shipping, delivered an overview of key provisions under the Merchant Shipping Act relating to third party liabilities, with particular reference to compensation regimes, compulsory insurance requirements, and alignment with international conventions. Ms. Danielle Dutta presented on the fundamentals of Protection and Indemnity insurance, the structure and functioning of the International Group of P&I Clubs, and emerging trends in the global casualty and claims landscape.

The session concluded with an interactive discussion, enabling constructive dialogue and enhancing collective understanding within the maritime community.
