IOMOU 29th Committee Meeting

The Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA), India participated in the 29th Committee Meeting of the Indian Ocean Memorandum of Understanding (IOMOU) on Port State Control, held at La Réunion, France, from 17–21 August 2026.

The meeting brought together maritime administrations from across the Indian Ocean region to deliberate on strengthening Port State Control (PSC), enhancing regulatory compliance of vessels and eliminating substandard shipping, thereby contributing to improved maritime safety across the region.

Key deliberations focused on Concentrated and Focused Inspection Campaigns in identified areas of concern, along with strengthening measures to detect and address fraudulent flag registrations and certificates

Shri Aniruddha Chaki, Deputy Chief Surveyor, DGMA, represented India in the deliberations, highlighted India’s perspectives and concerns on key issues under discussion and presented India’s Port State Control Activities Report for 2025.

DGMA remains committed to strengthening effective Port State Control, promoting compliance with international maritime standards and enhancing regional cooperation towards safer, compliant and sustainable shipping across the Indian Ocean region.
