Exploring the Future of Maritime through Extended Reality (XR)

The Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) participated in the Maritime XR Conclave, organized by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), to explore the transformative potential of Extended Reality (XR) technologies in the maritime sector.

Shri Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Maritime Administration (DGMA), attended the event as the Guest of Honour and highlighted the growing importance of XR in shaping the future of maritime operations, training, and governance. XR technologies are unlocking new possibilities in areas such as immersive maritime training, ship operations, safety management, emergency response, inspections, and workforce skill development.

The accompanying Maritime XR Exhibition provided stakeholders with an opportunity to experience innovative XR solutions firsthand and understand their practical applications across the maritime domain. As the maritime industry embraces digital transformation, XR has the potential to bridge the gap between traditional practices and next-generation capabilities, fostering safer, smarter, and more efficient maritime operations

As India advances towards a digitally empowered and future-ready maritime ecosystem, the future of maritime is not just digital—it is immersive.
